Safety tips that all girls should know

  • Carry pepper spray. I know it's a cliche. But who cares? If you cannot get pepper spray (for any reason. Laws vary amongst different states), than carry something else you could use as a defense weapon. Keys make great weapons for stabbing eyes, nostrils, or slicing throats
  • If you feel like you're being followed, keep walking, and keep yourself in a busy place. Make random turns (but always keeping in well lit, well populated areas), and go around the block (if the person follows you even after you've made a circle, he/she is probably up to no good).
  • If you're confronted by someone, and you feel uncomfortable and want to put some distance between you and that person (or if you're in an argument with someone and you're afraid you may be attacked out of anger), the best thing you can do to put some distance between you and that person is to hold out both hands in front of you and say something like "that's enough" or "Let's just calm down". This sounds dumb, but the gesture really does have an effect on a situation that could get out of hand.
  • Never say you'll be home alone in public. Careful when you're talking to friends at lunch or at the super market. If the wrong person over hears you talking about how you live alone, or how you have the house to yourself, it could cause issues.
  • few notes about getting into your car in a car park:Be aware: look around you, look into your car, at the passenger side floor, and check the back seat.
  • Tip from Tae Kwon Do: The elbow is the strongest point on your body. If you are close enough to use it, do it!
